Episode 4x16 - The Danny/Rikki scene
Oh man, I really want to finish a few of my Danny/Flack one-shot stories so I'm limiting my post on episode 4x16 to just the Danny/Rikki scene. Why?

Because it's damn hot, that's why. *lol* >:D

However, if you're interested in my thoughts for the episode overall, I did post a review in the grading thread for the episode at TalkCSI forums. Some of it may only make sense if you've read the other reviews in the thread. It's just mind-boggling what a certain group of people are calling Danny and Rikki. So far, I've been told Danny is either an 'asshole' or a 'cheating bastard', while Rikki is a 'cow' or a 'bitch'. How ironic the people hurling these insults are so much more like the rude names than Danny and Rikki are, eh?

So here's how the Danny/Rikki scene went down:

Danny's shirtless and rummaging through his fridge for ingredients for breakfast. Yep, he's cooking breakfast for both himself and Rikki, the special Messer Omelette! *lol*

*sniff* No chest hair. ;_;

He gets a call from Lindsay.

Danny: Messer.

He says this in his usual tone, but I got the vibe that he sounded content due to being together with Rikki more than anything else.

Almost immediately, Danny asks Lindsay how Stella is (because Stella's apartment burnt down in the beginning of the episode) and he tells Lindsay to let Stella know she has his support.

It's very in-character of him, since Danny's been shown again and again to be supportive of his friends, even Lindsay. I guess that's part of why I felt her Monologue of Doom in the latter half of the episode came off as very self-centered and petty and even manipulative to some level.

Then, Lindsay asks him if he wants to go out for lunch, saying it's her turn to buy. He instantly tells her that he has lots of things to do, such as going to the bank, going to the dry cleaners and bringing his bike to the shop to be fixed.

The interesting thing is that Danny only displays some annoyance when Lindsay asks him what's wrong.

Danny: What do you mean 'what's wrong'? Nothing's wrong. I just - I just got some stuff to do, and uh, I'll see you at work, a'right? Bye.

Danny ends the call with Lindsay. Moments later, Rikki appears in the scene, walking out from the bedroom wearing only Danny's shirt.

Rikki: Maybe I should take a rain check on Messer's famous omelette.

Rikki: Sounds like you have a busy day.

She's picking up her clothes from the living room in front of the couch. Oh my. So that's where it started! >:)

Danny: No, no, no, this is somethin' you don't wanna pass up. This omelette is a masterpiece. I'm makin' one for myself, makin' two is like, nothin'.

Rikki: Danny -

Danny: It's just breakfast, Rikki. Just breakfast.

Awwwww. Puppy dog eyes of Lurve at full blast! *lol*

Really, the way he said it, he might as well have said, "Please don't go. I want to be with you."

Rikki is quiet for a moment, like she has to strengthen her resolve, and then she says ...

Rikki: Last night was just sex.

Oh yeah, it's definitely more than just that for Danny!

Rikki: Before my son died, you were just the guy that I joked with in the hallway ...

Rikki: And joked with at the mail boxes ...

Rikki: What are we doing?

Danny cups her face in his hands and touches their foreheads together.

Danny: Makin' each other feel better ... (can't hear what he said) Ruben's gone, there's nothin' wrong with that.

Can anyone help me out and let me know what Danny said before 'Ruben's gone'? I tried my best to figure it out but it's too mumbled to me.

Danny kisses her, but Rikki attempts to pull away, not because she doesn't want to kiss Danny but because ...

Rikki: Danny ...

She says this in a husky voice.

She pauses, and he's constantly touching her, stroking her arms, brushing the hair away from her face, etc. It's very, very sweet. :)

Rikki: One day you're going to wake up ...

Rikki: And realize Ruben's death wasn't your fault.

Rikki has forgiven Danny/never blamed him, but it's clear Danny still blames himself, even after Rikki herself tells him it's not his fault.

Rikki: I guess he was with you when he was shot, but it was an accident.

I noticed that Danny swallows visibly when she says the last few words.

He glances downwards to look at her face again, exhaling heavily in a sigh.

Rikki: And me ...

Danny cups her head with his hands again. Awww.

Rikki: Can't you see that I'm just taking advantage of the guilt you feel ... so that I don't have to be alone?

Even before she's halfway through with her question, he's already shaking his head in mild protest, as if to show he knows it could be her just making an excuse to not be with him/doesn't care that she's doing that.

He touches foreheads with her again.

Danny: I don't care ...

Danny: I don't care 'cause I just want this hurt to go away ... don't you?

Rikki nods.

I love how what Danny says here can be interpreted in a number of ways. One, it could be him acknowledging that he's also using her like she claimed to be using him or two, it's him telling her he knows she's still in pain as well as himself, and that he wants to ease her pain. Considering his actions and behavior with her in episode 4x11 and 13, I'm inclined to go with the latter. It fits well with his character too.

Danny kisses her again ...

And she returns the kiss.

Notice how tightly he holds her to him!

Even when Rikki eventually and reluctantly pulls away, Danny touches foreheads with her once more and is holding her head in his hands. Awwwwwwww. :)

Rikki shakes her head a little, then murmurs ...

Rikki: I really should go.

Look, even when he moves back, he's still holding onto her, like he can't bear to let her go.

Danny: Okay ... okay ... but this is my shirt, I - I'm gonna need my shirt back, okay?

Notice he has a tiny smile on his lips. Oh, he knows she ain't getting away that easy!

Danny: Before you go ...

He starts to unbutton his shirt off her.

She laughs briefly and softly.

He attempts to unbutton the first button ...

And they're kissing again!

It looks like Rikki draws away the tiniest bit, but Danny quickly leans his head forward to kiss her again.

And they're off!

Rikki keeps saying she has to leave ... but her hand holding his neck that way implies she doesn't want to leave at all.

Hahahah, now we know what Danny looks like with bedhead after a night of hot, intimate sex! >:D

Look at the way he's holding her so tightly and closely to him! With both arms ...

And the way he's supporting her head with his elbow and arm! It's really as if he can't bear to not touch her all the time and be as close to her as possible.

And even thought Rikki seems shy/nervous, she eventually gives in to her emotions too.

C'mon. Would you say no to that hotness? *lol*

It's one of those scenes you gotta watch for yourself to fully appreciate it. :D I loveloveloved it, and I hope very much that we will see more of Rikki and Danny together with Rikki! :D

Heh, if we only have that scene to gauge Danny's emotions for Rikki and vice versa, I actually won't blink if TPTB eventually decides to have them move in together and start an official relationship.

I did not get to see this ep--stupid me, I'm getting over being sick and have been going to bed about an hour earlier than usual so thank you for the screencaps and the run down on the dialogue.

If I'd seen this on the screen I would have been bawling because I was tearing up just at the still pictures!

Yes yes yes--hotness abounds.

And you know, in these screencaps I could see all the emotion in Rikki's face. Imagining this scene with Lindsay? There would be no emotion, nothing that would shine through even in still photos. Which says a lot about the caliber of acting from both actresses.

Awww, I hope you feel better soon. And you're welcome!

It truly is a scene that has to be watched. :D The intimacy, the depth of their feelings towards each other and the care for each other ... wowzas, it's really something. :D

I wholly agree. If TPTB intends to use Rikki as nothing more than a plot device to get Danny and Lindsay together, they made a HUGE mistake. Now, even if DL becomes official, it'll always pale in comparison to what's between Danny and Rikki.

And indeed, Jacqueline Pinol is a wonderful actress. You know she's good when you can tell the precise emotions she's conveying just from pictures!

Just to help you as you missed the ep (I really feel for ya there been there) There is a great streaming site called surfthechannel.com which has links to streaming versions of episodes of CSI and a bazillion shows for free. I'm sure the ep will be there!!!

Guess what? And this was really cool. We've switched to having Dish TV (satellite) and we have a DVR with it. The other week when I set the DVR to record last week's ep, I must have set it to record weekly so..long story short, I had it recorded and got to watch it this afternoon. Thank you for the tip of the website--it's always great finding extra sources.

And yay--it's even hotter seeing it on the screen. Plus, I was so totatlly not impressed with Lindsay. Oy--she needs to grow up and be an adult instead of acting like she's still a young teenager.

Stella on the other hand rocks--and is totally my kind of woman. I am in love with Stella.

Stella... she always rocks the show. I still love the scene where Stella interpretted the dance moves on a piece of paper a dancer had when she died (Episode when idiot features Montana joined - i just can't be nice about someone when their acting sucks like a garbage disposal.) Yay for the DVR - Must invest in one of these myself!

Yeah, but poor Flack didn't even get past kissing Devon's neck before he got interrupted. :P And Danny, wahahah, he already got to have sex with Rikki at least twice!

As far as people calling Danny and Rikki names for their actions, that is going a bit far. I mean, Lindsey has some part in this in a sense because if Danny knew he was in a relationship with Lindsey (from what I can recall what kind of guy Danny is from previous seasons) I doubt Danny would have went that far with Rikki. If Lindsey was clear from the beginning about what she wanted her and Danny to be, I doubt the whole making each other thing would never happen.

I don't think Rikki is that much in the wrong when it comes to the Danny and Lindsey. She is in the wrong for doing what she is doing, which is taking advantage of Danny's current state of mind about the entire Ruben thing it is very clear that he is not over her. Danny is however, still in the wrong because he never did come clear with Lindsey about their status. Danny never told Lindsey how he really felt and that is misleading to Lindsey since she confessed to him she fell in love with him. So Danny knows he has to do some serious talking and confessions (possibly) with Lindsey soon. But Lindsey never really attempted to help Danny out and she had TWO opportunities to help Danny out but never took them.

And I really hate how childish she gets whenever she has an issue with Danny. Seriously, shoving something and telling him to read it himself? You are a professional woman and you want to react that way to a situation you are not even clear on? I don't want you as a co-worker.

But overall, Danny and Lindsey are both wrong for the same thing: Not being clear about their relationship ever since that night they got it on Danny's pool table with their bodies full of tequila.

This is probably the longest comment I will ever leave you, lol!

Ohh, I always enjoy long comments! :> I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on the situation.

I agree with you on all accounts. Yep, I know how messed up it seems for Danny and Rikki to even venture into a physical relationship, considering Danny believes himself to be blamed for Ruben's death. And you're right, no one's innocent in this situation, although yes, I also think Rikki has the least fault among the three of them. I guess we'll see next week or the week after next what the nature of the relationship between Danny and Lindsay had been since the season three finale.

Quote:
Danny never told Lindsey how he really felt and that is misleading to Lindsey since she confessed to him she fell in love with him.

True. I do wonder if knowing Danny doesn't feel the same for her from the start would stop her from falling in love with him as she put it. It is possible that it wouldn't.

Quote:

Trust me, he will. ;> Episode 18 is entitled, Admission.

Yes, and that's why I felt her Monologue of Doom to Danny sounded very petty and self-centered and even manipulative. It really did not help that she acted like a childish brat towards Danny before the monologue either.

Quote:

Heheheh. Ya know another thing I love about Danny/Rikki? Danny didn't require a single drop of alcohol to desire Rikki and touch her so lovingly and care for her. ;>

Honestly, Lindsey probably EXPECTED Danny to ask her for help with the Ruben situation even she said herself that she "isn't going with that kind of thing". I mean, Danny has been with her every issue she has without any questions but when it comes to Danny needing somebody, she doesn't return the favor. The simple fact that their relationship is not even on the same page (not sure if it is in the same book!), Danny and Lindsey was meant to not even last long.

All because of no communication between the two. With all the NY episodes I've seen that featured Lindsey and Danny in their early stages of their relationship since 'Snow Day', I don't even understand how Lindsey fell in love with Danny. We never saw them outside of work on dates, never saw them interact besides working together on cases. So what exactly where they doing on screen to give us on understanding on how Lindsey fell in love with him.

This reminds me back to "Til Death Do Us Part" when Mac mentioned to Danny that love will happen to him and that Danny really didn't have a comment to say to that. It seem like foreshadowing (I could be going really into this) if that was the case. Love has happen to Danny but he has no comment or opinion on it. The look on his face when Lindsey admitted she fell in love with him reminded of the look he had when Mac made that comment in "Til Death Do Us Part".

There are times were the relationship seem believeable but I saw it as more friends with benefits/dating without any real seriousness and that is what Danny probably view it as.

Danny actions with Rikki is completely understandable because that does happen in real life and that honestly just felt natural.

Those are excellent points. Makes her one hell of a self-centered hypocrite, doesn't it?

OMG, someone who watched season one too! *lol* Sorry, I'm just so jaded with the fandom nowadays because many of the DL shippers consider season one 'not as good' simply because Lindsay hadn't existed then. But yeah, very interesting detail there! I, too, remember his reaction to Mac's comment: "That's not funny, Mac." Hahahah!

I am actually optimistic that's what Danny will tell Lindsay within the next episode or two. If he'd been in a serious, exclusive relationship as boyfriend/girlfriend with Lindsay all this time, him having sex with Rikki and being so intimate and affectionate and sweet with her would be ... well, that'll just make Danny one messed up dude. *lol* Either that or Lindsay's become so intolerable he couldn't stand another second with her. Heh.

In the DLers' defense, the name calling really doesn't bother me. I've called Lindsay a bitch more than once and I know I'm not the only one on Talk who has mentioned the idea of her getting a bullet to the head or meeting her demise some other way. What bothers me is the reasoning behind the name calling. The only reason they're calling Danny and Rikki names is because TPTB is fucking with their made up version of canon and they aren't getting what they believe is owed them. Basically, they're proving that they love Lindsay because she reflects who they are, selfish and petty.

How bad is it that I noticed the guitar case in the background of at least one of the pictures? *lol*

The name-calling crap is stupid. Sure, we've called Lindsay a selfish brat/bitch/whatever--because we've seen her as that. Is there anything we've seen with Rikki to make anybody think she's a bitch, a slut, a cow--I could go on--? I don't think so. We've seen enough to say she's confused, upset, grieving, mixed up--but not a bitch or a slut. Yes, she may be taking advantage of Danny, but I thought they all hated Danny now. Why do they care if someone took advantage of the 'bastard scumbag'? *rolls eyes* What Rikki did with Danny has nothing to do with Lindsay--Rikki's not required to get a detailed record of Danny's life/sex life/roooooooomances. What happened between them happened between them.

Lindsay had nothing to do with it.

Getting mad at Danny on Lindsay's behalf--sure, whatever, it's your party, blah blah--but getting mad at Rikki on Lindsay's behalf is ridiculous. It's like those idiot women on Jerry Springer catfighting over some loser--why are they fighting over a guy when he's technically the reason for the problem in the first place? Logic, let me show you it.

I thought the stuff between Danny and Rikki was bittersweet, complex and complicated (and not necessarily in a good way). I think everything with Danny and Lindsay is irksome, childish and superficial (in the opposite-of-deep sense). Remind me again why I'm supposed to be inspired by the twu wub between Danny and Lindsay and ache deep in my wittle heart for the damage Danny has done to the very foundations of their perfickt union?

Doesn't matter in the end--I can't fathom leaving Danny stuck with Lindsay for the rest of his life. Nothing's final until you're dead. Flack will get his crazy ass eventually.

This is kind of making me want to write a story where Flack is thinking about what Danny's doing and all of the mistakes he's making while telling himself that Danny has to fight his own battles and arrive at the truth on his own: the truth being that Flack's always right there, waiting. Flack will always see him for who he is, flaws and all, and love him regardless. Flack will forgive his mistakes and the stupidity of continuing to seek destructive, messed-up relationships and, if Danny ends up with Lindsay now (because she looooooves him and he moves from person to person that needs him and then discards him when they're done), Flack is willing to bide his time.

Flack and Lindsay are like polar opposites. Flack isn't the easy choice, but then Danny always does seem to make bad choices, doesn't he?

And here I am, turning your Danny/Rikki post into Danny/Flack.

Suffice it to say, if the writers kept Jacqueline around, I'd love to see long-term development of this relationship, complete with ups and downs and everything in between. Maybe we should all keep writing feedback to CBS--I doubt it does any good, but I'm just a bitch--I like countering rabid fantardism with calm logic.

How bad is it that I noticed the guitar case in the background of at least one of the pictures? *lol*

Damn, you good.

Yes, she may be taking advantage of Danny, but I thought they all hated Danny now. Why do they care if someone took advantage of the 'bastard scumbag'? *rolls eyes* ... It's like those idiot women on Jerry Springer catfighting over some loser--why are they fighting over a guy when he's technically the reason for the problem in the first place? Logic, let me show you it.

*ROFL* Precisely!

Flack will get his crazy ass eventually.

:D That handsome bastard, he knows he'll get Danny 'cause he's just cool like that. And yes! Please to be writing that story!

Heh, I already have. :D

First off, Danny and Rikki: hot. Enouh said.

Lindsay whining about not wanting to be a (and excuse me if I misquote, it's two in the morning as I do this) clingy, suffocating girlfriend? Did I miss something? If D/L is what qualifies as a bf/gf relationship these days, I will happily stay single.

Flack coming out between Rikki in his wife beater in boxers. Never mind the Messer Omlette when you can have the Flack/Messer sandwhich. I'll take one for each day of the week. Hell, I'll take one for breakfast, lunch and dinner each day of the week.

And please, please, please God do not let Lindsay attempt to sink her claws into Flack or Hawkes. Someone hide them! While you're at it, take Adam along for safe keeping!

And another please, please, please: why am I getting a sick feeling Lindsay's going to come up pregnant! Who's the daddy!!! Someone call Maury Povich and get her a spot on the show!!!

If they give up on DL only to switch to Lindsay/Someone Else--then I'll have to protest. Do not inflict her on any of the other guys, that's just not fair.

Lindsay said, "Don't reduce me to a shallow, clingy girlfriend." I laughed so hard when she said that! It was like she believed she was the total opposite and even Danny knew how WTF that was!

Nah, Lindsay getting pregnant is just going into badfic soap opera territory. That happens, the show will end in no time.

Dude I join you in that sentiment. Unfortunately it does seem that is what is qualifying as bf/gf relationships these days. I went on a first date this week and the guy was expecting total and complete exclusivity, and commitment. Clingy is not attractive man!

Were they ever to do this I would seriously consider my watching this show. It takes a lot to move me from th sport of Danny and Flack watching, but damn that may just be it.

(Edited to add the last paragraph and Quote - I suspect LJ is not happy today as it ommitted that thought.)
Angleicalangie - who is now thinking of being blessedly single for the rest of her life, if clingy is the best there is

I would never watch the show again if they pulled a Linds preggers story. Way too soap opera. But then I never thought they'd have Speed going out like a chump. I have never watched it again once they killed him off like that. So anything is possible. I cringe at the thought.

I couldn't get over Caruso's terrible acting to watch MIAMI. I have a friend who parodies it chronically, which ends in total giggle fits.

i absolutely loved this scene!!! i saw something here b/t Danny & Rikki that i've never seen b/t Danny & Lindsay. i think DR has a bond that goes beyond sex, no matter what Rikki tried to tell him. :)

also, i love the parts when they touched foreheads. maybe it's just me, but i find something very sexy about the act of pushing ones forehead against someone elses forehead. it's a weird fetish i have, i suppose, lol.

Absolutely agreed, and that's another thing I love about the scene, the 'messages' that came through in their acting! So much to glean just from their body language. Gorgeous stuff!

You're not the only one. :) It's very intimate. Putting your forehead to another person's means you'll be eye to eye with the person too. And you know what they say about eyes being windows to the soul ... Danny and Rikki constantly gazing each other in the eye signified openness and honesty and of course, intimacy. ;>
